November Book

The book for this month is The Giver by Lois Lowry. It is a Newbery winner about a Utopian society. I have one copy (Hyrum Library's copy) that will soon be available and Chris said that she may be able to get another copy or two from Larry. We will meet on Wednesday, Dec. 1st at 8pm at my (Nancy's) house.If you find yourself wanting more after reading this book, I also recommend Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. Same idea, more grown-up. I have a copy of this as well.

It was suggested at the last book club that maybe the first Thursday would be preferable for our discussion. If you have an opinion on this (yes/no/who cares) please share it and we can decide whether to change or stay on Wednesdays.

October Book

So sorry that I am a little late posting these titles. Hopefully the grapevine has covered for me and you're already enjoying the books. Here are the books that you can choose between or read both for this months discussion.

PLEASE NOTE: Bookclub will be held on Thursday again this month, so change your calendars and plan on attending Nov. 4th at 8pm at Kris Berrett's home. (And don't forget that she moved--the Mercado's may enjoy a visit but you'll miss out on a great discussion.)

September Book

We have two books for September. They are:
The Devil's Paintbox by Victoria McKernan and Boys Without Names by Kashmira Sheth.

There are copies of these books floating around so shout out if you're ready to start one of them. Bookclub will be held on Wednesday, October 6th at Chris's house. See you then!

August Book

Thanks for a fun evening, Sandy. LOVE THE HOUSE!!! (And the zucchini bread!) Our next discussion will be September 1st at 8pm at Kaylene's home. The book is Warriors Don't Cry by Melba Patillo Beals. Also, I've updated the host schedule through the end of the year. Check to make sure this works for you and let me know if anything needs to be changed. (i.e. Allyson, would January work better for you?) Enjoy the last few weeks of summer!

July Book

This month we have two books to enjoy:

Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen

We will discuss these books on Wednesday, August 4th at 8pm at Sandy's NEW house! Also, I have updated the hostess schedule for the rest of 2010. If you need to change anything or trade with anyone, let me know, sooner rather than later please!

And one last item of interest: I noticed in the Cache Magazine this week an article promoting a book called Outcasts United by Warren St. John.

I mention it because the article says that Luma Mufleh, the woman that the book is based on, is giving a lecture at USU on Saturday, August 28th at 9:30am, in the Kent Concert Hall. If this interests you, maybe some of us could read the book and then attend the lecture together.

June Book

Thanks, Allyson, for a fun evening, delicious brownies, and an enlightening book! For the rest of my life, when I do something that I'm not proud of, I can now say, "At least I'm not Rose Mary Walls!"

This month we are reading a novel about George and Martha Washington called, Mount Vernon Love Story, by Mary Higgins Clark. We will meet at 8pm on July 7th at Nancy's home to discuss this book and other matters of import. See you then!
